Mrs. Kamphaus

Welcome to Geary County Schools and Eisenhower Elementary.  My name is Susan M. Kamphaus and I have been the principal of Eisenhower for the past 19 years.  I began my career in education in the district as a special education teacher with mentally handicapped children.  After three years I moved to the newly opened Eisenhower Elementary where I continued to teach special needs students for six years, but this time with students who had emotional and social needs. I then moved to Grandview Elementary as a regular education teacher in third grade and then kindergarten.  I also served as the Head Teacher for the two years I was there.  My next assignment was to Lincoln and Milford Elementaries for two years as the principal before returning to Eisenhower as principal.  I am married to Ray who is an electrician and who is originally from Junction City.  We raised three beautiful, successful daughters who all went through this school system and our granddaughter has now begun her school career here also.

Junction City and Eisenhower are exciting places to be.  We have the best students and wonderful parents.  When you add our outstanding staff to this mix it makes for a hard working and high performing team.  Our students do very well on the state tests and our district assessments.  We have met the State Standard or Excellence in Reading for the past five years.  In both writing and science, which had been given every other year until recently, we met the State Standard of Excellence in Writing in ’02, ’04 and ’07 and Science in ’05, ’07 and ‘08.  In Math we have achieved the State Standard of Excellence for the past seven years.  In the fall of 2005 we were the recipients of the Challenge Award for our performance in reading the previous spring.  We were among a select group of schools who received the first ever Governor’s Achievement Award for the 2005-2006 school year and we have continued to receive that award the last two years.  We were recently announced as a 2007 National No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School

We are a school of approximately 260 students in grades K-5.  This includes several special needs students from throughout the district.  We are looking forward to the new families moving to Junction City who will share their children with us.  You can see from our website that there has been recent construction going on all around us to prepare for the families coming to our community.

We believe in teaching the whole child at Eisenhower and to do all that we can to prepare our students to be productive citizens.  We have several activities that students can participate in such as Student Advisory Club, Homework and Math Club, Flying Fingers (sign language), a recorder group and a school choir.  Check out our web site for more information and pictures about some of the many things we do.

We hope that we will have the opportunity to work with you and your children.  We encourage you to become involved by joining PTA or volunteering for some of our many activities.  We sponsor many family events throughout the year and we know you will want to be a part of them.

Respectfully,

Susan M. Kamphaus, Principal
